Experience Highlights
Dr. Von Burg, having more than 30 years of experience in toxicology, formed EnTox & Associates in 1996. As the Principal
Scientist, Dr. Von Burg is frequently retained for expert witness and litigation support in Toxic Tort cases, which have included
topics such as hydrocarbons (process intermediates and finished products, e.g., benzene and toluene), generic chemicals (e.g.,
TDI), fibrous materials (asbestos), food additives and contaminants, synthetic chemical (e.g., PCBs), pharmaceuticals
(tryptophan), and pesticides (Alar). To date, Dr. Von Burg has provided services as an expert in toxicology and industrial hygiene
issues for over 200 legal cases and has provided services as a Certified Industrial Hygienist on more than 100 projects. Dr. Von
Burg, and his Associates, also provide consulting services for human health and ecological risk assessments, product labeling,
indoor air sampling and monitoring, hazardous waste assessments, OSHA compliance, HUD asbestos/lead assessments, and
comprehensive industrial hygiene practice, to name but a few.
Dr. Von Burg has also had an extensive professional career prior to forming EnTox & Associates. He has held such positions as
the Technical Director of Toxicology Services and Western Regional Manager for Risk Assessment at ICF Kaiser Engineers,
Principal Toxicologist and Program Manager for ENSR Corp., and Senior Toxicologist for Chevron Environmental Health Center,
Inc. At Chevron, Dr. Von Burg supervised the MSDS/product label program, designed emergency response plans, performed
hazard evaluations, was a representative for company and scientific interests to governmental agencies, and acted as a toxicology
advisor to lawyers on “Consent Order” as well as an expert witness. Dr. Von Burg has also held positions as Regional Staff
Toxicologist for the California Dept. of Health Services, Division of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC), and as Staff Toxicologist for
Cal/OSHA. While at Cal/OSHA, Dr. Von Burg acted as the Supervisor of the Right-to-Know Unit and served as a liaison with the
California Pesticide Registration Board, HESIS and the California Dept. of Health Services, as well as conducting special projects
and investigations for Cal/OSHA.
Prior to that, Dr. Von Burg had a variety of work experiences in academia. He has held positions ranging from Research Assistant
to Professor and Chairman for universities such as Yale University, Fordham University, University of Rochester, York College (C.U.
N.Y.), Ramapo College of New Jersey, and is currently an Adjunct Instructor at UC Berkeley. Some of Dr. Von Burg’s most notable
work was as a Research Associate to the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, University of Rochester, NY. Stationed in
Iraq, Dr. Von Burg was a University representative to the Iraqi government during the Iraqi Methylmercury Epidemic (1971 – 1973).
